Reiki is a non-invasive gentle healing therapy, during a Reiki session you will be lying fully clothed on a couch or seated in a chair.
I will take a few moments to enter a calm state and then will place my hands very lightly on or near various parts of the body, including the head, torso, knees and feet, each movement guided by intuition to areas needing attention.
A full body treatment can last approximately 45 minutes.
Reiki is always totally safe and appropriate making it suitable for everyone. However, as with all other therapies a full consultation is required.

Reiki healing was discovered in Japan by a man named Dr Mikao Usui. He was born into a wealthy Buddhist family in 1865, who were able to give him a good education. He studied martial arts, swordsmanship and kiko the Japanese form of Chi Kung.
He was interested in psychology, theology and medicine throughout his education and studied all types of healing systems. He was president of a small university in Tokyo. Usui was very curious about finding out how Jesus and Buddha had been able to heal. This quest led him to research both Christian and Buddhist scriptures. He studied Sanskrit- the ancient sacred Indian language - which enabled him to read and understand the Buddhist writings and he spent a considerable time in a Buddhist monastery, where he was advised by the abbot to meditate in order to find the answers he was seeking. Usui embarked on a 21-day meditation, fasting and prayer on Mount Koriyama in Japan. On the last day Dr Usui experienced an event that would change his life forever. He saw ancient Sanskrit symbols that he had noticed in the Buddhist scriptures. Simultaneously, the application, knowledge and meaning of the symbols and mantras became clear to him.
He called this energy ‘Reiki'. In 1922 Usui opened his first Reiki clinic in Tokyo. Many people came for treatment and he started to share his knowledge. In 1923 there was a devastating earthquake, in which thousands of people were killed, injured and became sick, Usui gave Reiki healing to many people and the Meiji emperor honoured him for his work. People showed great respect for his wisdom, knowledge and compassion; he became known as ‘sensei’ (teacher), renowned throughout Japan for his remarkable healing skills.
Usui passed his knowledge and teachings onto Dr Chujiro Hayashi (1879-1940), a retired naval officer. Hayashi and his wife opened a Reiki clinic in Japan. Mrs Hawayo Takata visited the clinic over several months for treatment for a tumour and was cured. She was so impressed that she begged Hayashi to teach her Reiki. She took all the attunements needed to become a Master. She travelled extensively throughout the USA and Canada, treating people and teaching them how to use Reiki for themselves and to heal others. Before Takata died at 80 years of age she trained 22 Reiki Masters. Through them Reiki spread widely and became known all over the world.
Reiki is an ancient relaxation technique, which promotes self-healing. It is safe for anyone or anything, including animals. It is a gentle positive energy that can do no harm only good. It can be interpreted as Rei-universal, higher knowledge, spiritual consciousness and Ki-life force. Reiki is the coming together of these two in balance.
